Happy New Year! I hope you’ve had a lovely Christmas and New Year and are ready to take on 2025. I have spent the last two weeks with family who were visiting from Canada, and I am very grateful we could spend Christmas together. I’m feeling well-rested and I’m looking forward to getting to know and helping the new clients I have scheduled this week with their health goals.
Healthy alcohol alternatives
Are you doing dry January? Or are you thinking about reducing your alcohol consumption this month? There are lots of tasty and healthy alternatives to your favourite alcoholic drinks available nowadays. Here are some of my favourites:
Water Kefir
Good for your gut, water kefir also makes a refreshing alternative to alcohol. When choosing a water kefir, make sure you read the label as many can contain sweeteners. AGUA de MADRA is a sparkling water kefir made from natural prebiotic cultures and free from added artificial sweeteners. You could also try making your own!
Kombucha
Like water kefir, Kombucha is beneficial for gut health. Some shop-bought Kombucha can also contain added sweeteners, so again check the labels before you buy. Equinox Organic Kombucha is free of additives and comes in a range of delicious flavours such as ginger, wild berry and Sicilian lemon.
Pentire Coastal Spritz
Similar to the very popular Aperol, Pentire Coastal Spritz makes a great, alcohol free alternative. Just mix with sparkling water!
What’s in season in January
Fruits and vegetables taste so much better and often contain more nutrients when eaten in season. Eat these in January while they are at their very best.
Brussel sprouts
Carrots
Cauliflower
Leeks
Kale
Parsnips
Savoy cabbage
Swedes
