Why Eating Beef Tomatoes Can Help You Sleep
A Sleepy Mocktail recipe, more sleep tips, and ONE SLOT remaining for my FREE nutrition clinic on March 14th
Beef tomatoes? What are you talking about??
Did you see my post on Instagram last week for Sleep Awareness Month - “3 Foods and Drinks Scientifically Proven to Help You Sleep Well”? Most of us know we should be getting more sleep, but for many reasons, this doesn’t happen. Certain foods can help promote sleep, one of those foods is beef tomatoes. Beef tomatoes are a good source of dietary melatonin, the main hormone that regulates the sleep-wake cycle. A 2021 published study showed eating 250g (approx half a beef tomato) 2 hours before bed for 8 weeks improved sleep quality.

A Sleepy Mocktail Recipe
Tart cherries contain tryptophan, serotonin and melatonin. These are all important hormones involved in promoting sleep. Try this “sleepy mocktail” recipe in the evening to help you drift off into a restful slumber.
Ingredients
135ml Tart Cherry Juice (I like Biona)
7g Maple Syrup
120ml Sparkling Water
Ice Cubes
Method
In a glass, combine the tart cherry juice, maple syrup, and sparkling water.
Top with ice and enjoy!
A bit of sleepy fun!
You might also have seen me share Balance’s March Wellness Bingo on social media throughout last week. I love the Balance app, which provides personalised daily meditations. I recommend it to my clients when they need tools to help them relax.
See how many of these you can tick off throughout March to help you get a good night’s sleep so you can wake feeling refreshed and ready for the day ahead.
